When: February 14th. Packet pick up 12 pm. Race start 1 pm
Where: The Little Ski Hill / McCall, Idaho
Who: Skiers and Splitboarders of all ages.
What is Skimo: Skimo is a sport encompassing multiple forms of uphill and downhill travel on snow. You can participate in a skimo event if you have backcountry/randonee ski gear, tele ski gear, or splitboard gear. You must use skins on your equipment for ascending, and remove your skins for descending. Your gear can be ultra-light or heavy metal, it’s all part of the skimo!
Skimo racing is one of the fastest-growing winter sports and will be a new Olympic sport in 2026!
Here is a great beginners guide to skimo which may be helpful
The Course: We have designed a course that includes a full tour of The Little Ski Hill. Each lap contains two climbs and descents. The second climb includes a 150ft boot pack where participants will strap their skis or splitboards to their pack and “boot” up an established track. Each lap includes 800 ft of vertical gain/loss.
We will have two-course options. A 1-lap short course and a 2-lap long course. Each lap will take participants between 20-60+ minutes to complete.
The course will be fully marked and easy to follow. There will be volunteers along the route to help direct and facilitate a positive experience for all
The Little Ski Hill will be operating and the T-Bar during the event. Participants will be sharing the hill with other users, so attention and caution is required as this is not a “closed” race course.
Cost:
Under 18: $10
Short Course: $20
Long Course: $35
All proceeds from the Little Skimo will benefit the Little Ski Hill, whose mission is to provide affordable, accessible, sustainable winter recreation facilities in McCall. LSH has provided consistent uphill access which has greatly benefited the skimo and uphill community.
The Schedule:
12-1pm: Bib pick up in the Little Ski Hill Lodge
1pm: Mass start for all racers
1-3pm: Racers on course
3-3:30pm: Post race awards and raffle
What is the McCall Winter Sports Club (MWSC): The McCall Winter Sports Club (MWSC) has been teaching young skiers how to develop into strong individuals with character since 1947. The MWSC Backcountry Team opens up the world of backcountry skiing and riding in search of steeps, cliffs, chutes, and jumps. Athletes will be exposed to avalanche education, backcountry travel, route-finding, winter survival, and outdoor leadership. Website:
